Update on Clinical Condition of Pope Francis amid Hospital Confinement
POPE FRANCIS – The doctors of the Roman Pontiff admitted that he is “not out of danger” despite the improvements in his clinical condition.
Countless Catholic leaders and devotees are currently watching out for updates about the Pope. Since February 14, the Roman Pontiff is confined in a hospital in Gemelli in Rome, Italy. He experienced chest pains.

Pope Francis who is currently aged 88 was diagnosed with “focal pneumonia”. He previously told two (2) people who are close to him that he “might not make it this time”. When the Roman Pontiff was young, a part of his lungs was reportedly removed and it is a factor that makes his current health condition challenging.

Preparations for the wake and the funeral of the Pope have started amid his condition. The Swiss Guard who are in-charge of the security of the Sovereign Pontiff are also reportedly under a curfew over his possible demise. The Pope previously said that his burial site is ready.

Meanwhile, despite the readiness of the Pope, Catholic leaders and devotees continue to pray for his recovery. It was recently reported that Pope Francis’ clinical condition showed slight improvements. He has also received the Eucharist and has returned to some work activities while staying confined in the hospital.
However, recently, the doctors of Pope Francis clarified that the Roman Pontiff is “not out of danger”. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it was shared by Professor Sergio Alfieri during a press conference at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.
“The question is, is the pope out of danger? No, the pope is not out of danger,” Alfiere said.
Meanwhile, Alfiere further said that the Pope is not “in danger of dying at this moment”. Based on the report, the slight improvements on the clinical condition of the Pope allowed the doctors to lower the amount of medication on the Sovereign Pontiff.
Reportedly, the health condition of the Pope started in bronchitis which developed into double pneumonia. According to the Professor, the real risk now is if the germs pass into the blood of the Roman Pontiff as it may result to sepsis which can be fatal. Meanwhile, he clarified that while the Pope may be a fragile patient, “he has incredible resilience” proven by how he handles the infection with all his workload.
