Epy Quizon Reflects on Lost Times, Longing for His Father Dolphy’s Strength and Presence
EPY QUIZON – Actor Epy Quizon fondly recalls the days when his father, the legendary Dolphy, was alive and strong, wishing he could have more time with him to share moments of laughter and wisdom.
Veteran actor Epy Quizon remains one of the most admired figures in the entertainment industry, not just for his talent in portraying diverse roles in comedy and drama but also for his skills as a director. Currently, he’s gaining recognition for his role in the 2024 GMA hit drama series Pulang Araw, where he portrays Julio Borromeo, a Filipino theater owner from the 1940s.
Behind his stellar performance lies a deep well of inspiration drawn from his late father, Comedy King Dolphy, a vaudeville performer who left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
Epy Quizon’s admiration for his father goes beyond his role in Pulang Araw. In his daily life and projects, he continues to carry the lessons and memories imparted by Dolphy. In a heartfelt interview with Aster Amoyo, Epy shared how much he misses his father. If given the chance to turn back time, he would revisit the days when his father was still strong and vibrant. “Noong malakas pa ang tatay ko. Kung babalikan ko lang, a. Wala ako papalitan pero sana noong malakas pa ang tatay ko, sana mas kinulit ko sa bahay niya,” he said.
Epy also reminisced about their cherished family gatherings, particularly their Sunday dinners. These outings were filled with laughter and lively conversations, so much so that even people at nearby tables would find themselves chuckling along.
Beyond the joyful moments, Epy treasures the wisdom his father imparted during their conversations. “Sa lahat ng lumalabas sa bibig niya may kasamang wisdom, may wittiness. Whether through a joke or out of a joke, same wittiness niya ‘yung wisdom na binabahagi niya sa lahat ng mga kausap niya. Iyon ang nakaka-miss na may kasamang tawanan habang ginagawa niya iyon,” Epy said, adding that he misses the laughter that often accompanied those life lessons.

Today, Epy continues to pray for his father’s guidance in navigating the entertainment industry—a craft he learned from Dolphy. “Usually when I’m at work I pray. I usually ask for guidance from him. I don’t know if it’s the right to ask for guidance from him, pero that’s what I do. It’s his craft, it’s what I learned from him,” he shared.
As Epy pursues his dreams in showbiz and his family’s business, he remains grounded in Dolphy’s teachings, applying them in his daily life—particularly in upholding respect and gentlemanly values toward women.
