Dennis Trillo Donates 2024 MMFF Prize to PDLs: A Heartfelt Gesture with a Powerful Message
DENNIS TRILLO – Kapuso actor Dennis Trillo shares the heartfelt reason behind his decision to donate his 2024 MMFF monetary prize to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
Dennis Trillo, the acclaimed actor of the MMFF 2024 hit film Green Bones, has once again demonstrated his commitment to social causes by donating his monetary prize to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). The award-winning actor won the Best Actor trophy at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, along with a cash prize of PHP 100,000, which he chose to give to a meaningful cause.
In an interview aired during the January 5 episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Dennis explained the inspiration behind his decision. “’Yung kuwento po ng Green Bones, para naman po talaga sa kanila,” he told host Jessica Soho. The film’s story resonates deeply with the struggles and hopes of PDLs, making the donation a fitting gesture.
Dennis Trillo also shared his wish, inspired by the fictional Tree of Hope depicted in Green Bones. The concept is based on an actual wish tree at the General Trias City Jail, where PDLs can express their dreams and aspirations. “Matapos na ang giyera sa ibang bansa, giyera sa mga sarili natin, giyera sa pamilya, giyera sa kahit saan. Kapag walang conflict, mas masaya ‘di ba? Mas peaceful,” Dennis reflected.
According to the report, Dennis’s road manager, Jan Enriquez, recounted the events following the awards night. According to Jan’s social media post, Dennis’s wife, actress Jennylyn Mercado, suggested donating the cash prize to PDLs. Jan then entrusted the amount to JC Rubio, the senior program manager for I-Witness and Kara Docs, who also conceptualized Green Bones.
“Doon po gagamitin ang 100K para matupad ang mga munti nilang hiling,” Jan shared. The donation will fund initiatives that bring hope and joy to PDLs, fulfilling their small yet meaningful wishes.
The generosity didn’t stop there. Team Green Bones also donated the cash prize they earned during their guesting on Family Feud to the same cause.
Dennis Trillo’s actions underscore his empathy and dedication to uplifting marginalized communities, making his achievements in Green Bones resonate beyond the screen. His donation to PDLs is not just an act of kindness but a testament to the power of using one’s platform for good.
