Amid the celebrations for the winnings in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2025, there are certain happenings at the Gabi ng Parangal that went viral. One of which was the inclusion of Eugene Domingo in the “In Memoriam” segment at the event.
Domingo was one of those submitted for the Best Supporting Actress award but she did not win. Her inclusion in the “In Memoriam” segment at Gabi ng Parangal was taken by some netizens as if she has passed away. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Metro Manila Film Festival Executive Committee issued a statement.
“We’ve noted concerns regarding the video tribute featuring Ms. Eugene Domingo at the recent Gabi ng Parangal. This was intended as a tribute to luminaries both living and passed, and who have contributed to the MMFF over its 50-year history – not an In Memoriam segment,” the MMFF ExeCom said on the inclusion of Eugene Domingo in the “In Memoriam” segment.
Based on the report, the MMFF ExeCom further expressed its hope that the statement will clear the misundertstanding and give focus in celebrating the achievement of the film industry. Following his MMFF win, Dennis Trillo showcased a “Victory Dance” for winning Best Actor.
