Sen. Imee Marcos Speaks on Impact of PAGASA
IMEE MARCOS – The Senator believes that so many deaths could have been avoided if there was enough warnings from PAGASA.
The Philippines is one of the countries that is usually hit by typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural calamities. Recently, severe tropical storm Kristine caused deep flooding in several areas across the nation including the Bicol region.
In Naga, several cars were left damaged by TS Kristine including the vehicles of many residents of Camella Naga Subdivision. The flooding and strong winds drove the vehicles to bump against each other. The floodwater also entered the first floor of a shopping mall.
The evacuees at the shopping mall had to transfer to the second floor of the building as the floodwater entered the ground floor of the mall. Severe tropical storm Kristine also caused fatalities and injuries among several individuals.
At least 140 people died due to the onslaught of severe tropical storm Kristine in the Philippines. Based on a report on GMA News, at least 91 people were left injured while 19 were reported missing. Presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos spoke on the impact of Kristine in the Philippines.
Sen. Imee Marcos expressed her belief that so many lives could have been saved if state weather bureau PAGASA had enough warning to the local government units regarding severe tropical storm Kristine. According to her, many people could have evacuated.
“Kung sana nasabihan nang maayos ng PAGASA ang LGU na gano’n kalakas ang ulan, sana’y nakalikas ng maaga at ‘di namatay ang napakarami,” Marcos said.
Based on the report, Sen. Imee Marcos also stressed that PAGASA has enough funds and their 2025 budget is much bigger. The Senator expressed her hope that the said situation wherein PAGASA allegedly failed to give enough warnings will not happen again.
“May sapat na pondo naman tayo, ngunit bakit sa tuwing may bagyo ay tila kulang ang mga abiso? Anong nangyari? Nagtaas pa ang badyet nila sa 2025, aba’y dapat hindi na mauulit ang ganitong sitwasyon,” she said.
Amid thousands of people affected by the several tropical storm, the Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan is up for Kristine-hit members.
