House Released Former PCSO General Manager Royina Garma from Detention
Former PCSO General Manager Royina Garma has reportedly departed the Philippines amid the investigation of the drug war.
Currently, not only the House of Representatives but as well as the Senate is having an investigation of the war on drugs. In the lower chamber, one of the individuals who were invited by the House Quad Committee to a hearing was former police colonel Royina Garma.
Garma is also a former PCSO general manager who led the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office from 2019 to 2022. At one of the hearings, she claimed that the war on drugs of the Duterte administration was allegedly implemented on a rewards system.
Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte allegedly rewarded the cops with money in the implementation of the drug war. The campaign has become controversial after it was linked to the deaths of several individuals. Duterte denied “rewards system” accusation against his admin’s war on drugs.
According to former Pres. Duterte, the cops are not used to receiving money as rewards for a mission accomplished. He claimed that what he does instead is invite and treat them over food and drinks. He stressed that police love to drink.
Former PCSO General Manager Royina Garma was previously detained at the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, she was released from detention after she committed to appear at the next hearing of the committee handling the discussion of the issue.
However, former PCSO General Manager Royina Garma has reportedly departed the Philippines. Based on the report, some sources claimed that the former police colonel flew to Washington, DC with her daughter last November 7.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was also invited by the House Quad Comm to its hearing over the war on drugs. However, the former Chief Executive has repeatedly skipped the inquiries set by the lower chamber committee. A House Quad Comm member previously speculated that Duterte may be scared that is why he does not appear at the hearing.
The former Chief Executive was quick to react to the remarks of House Quad Comm co-chair Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano. According to former Pres. Duterte, the House panel does not scare him a bit.
Furthermore, Duterte claimed that traveling to Metro Manila for the House hearing will be costly for him. He stressed that he is living within his retirement pay. Previously, on its part, the Senate sees no need to invite Duterte in the next hearings over the war on drugs.
