The attendance of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the Senate hearing was confirmed by Senator Bato dela Rosa. The Senator was the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the implementation of the war on drugs. He was the first Senator to publicly speak about his intent to launch a probe regarding the Duterte admin’s war on drugs.

However, Dela Rosa’s pronouncement was met with negative reactions as he is also one of the accused in the war on drugs being the chief of the PNP then. At the Senate hearing, Duterte claimed that his war on drugs was to protect the people and the country. According to him, he only did what he needed to do.

Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte also expressed taking “full legal responsibility” over his administration’s war on drugs. He wants to free the police from liabilities asserting that they were only following orders from him. He admitted that he ordered the police to encourage their targets to fight back so they have an option.

Duterte stressed that he has already warned the people not to engage in drugs. According to him, amid the accusations, he is wondering why the Department of Justice (DOJ) has yet to file a case against him. At the hearing, Sen. Bato dela Rosa was emotional as he thanked the former President and said that there is no him as a senator without the former Chief Executive.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte also claimed that a drug den was allegedly recently raided inside Malacañang. Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos was asked for his reaction to the revelations and admissions of the former Chief Executive.
