A tragic incident unfolded at a private hospital in Tagbilaran city on the morning of Thursday, October 17, when a nurse was fatally stabbed by a patient. Police identified the suspect as Marlito Cardines Linguis, 31, a resident of Barangay Magsaysay in Sevilla town. The attack reportedly stemmed from a perceived grievance over the way he was treated at the hospital.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober, the chief of Tagbilaran City Police, said that the motive behind it was rooted in hatred. “The motive of the incident was hatred. The suspect was informed by the victim that he will be left in the hospital despite paying the required hospital bill,” he said. This news allegedly enraged patient, leading him to commit the violent act.
Linguis had been admitted to the Bohol Doctors Hospital in Barangay Bool on Tuesday, October 15, for treatment of diarrhea, along with eight other patients. On Thursday morning, just as he was about to be discharged, he reportedly grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed the 51-year-old nurse multiple times. At the request of the victim’s family, the nurse’s name has not been released.

Fortunately, Justiniare managed to escape the attack and sought help from the hospital’s security personnel. Linguis was swiftly arrested and is now being held at the police custodial facility, awaiting the filing of murder charges.
As of now, the Bohol Doctors Hospital has not issued an official statement about the incident. An investigation is ongoing, and the hospital is expected to release a formal response in the coming days.
