Vice Pres. Leni Robredo Says Naga Needs More Pump Boat amid Flooding
LENI ROBREDO – The Vice President requested for help for the residents of Naga City in Bicol who were trapped by flood caused by #Kristine.
Tropical Storm Kristine is currently within the Philippine Area or Responsibility or PAR. The previous weather forecasts predicted that the storm might make a landfall on Wednesday or Thursday. However, as early as Tuesday, the rain has started in some parts of Camarines Sur which caused some canals to overflow.
Based on a latest update about Tropical Storm Kristine by PAGASA, the tropical storm continues to strengthen as it moves west-northwest over the sea east of Quezon. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is up in several areas in Luzon including Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the Bicol Region.
According to PAGASA, heavy rainfall is expected. Several parts of the Bicol region are currently submerged in flood water. Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is one of the known personalities who are currently busy in exerting efforts to help the people of Naga who are affected by the flooding.
Robredo hails from Naga. Her late husband, former interior department secretary Jesse Robredo, has served as mayor of Naga for several years prior to his appointment to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the term of the late former Pres. Noynoy Aquino.
Amid the deep flooding in Naga City wherein the floodwater has reached the roof level of several residential properties in low-lying areas, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo called for help as they need more pump boats to help the residents who are affected by flood.
Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo said that some people are stuck in their roofs for several hours now. According to the former Vice President, many of their rescue trucks have stalled due to the floods. Here’s the social media post of the former Vice President:
Aside from former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, the local government unit (LGU) of Naga City has also appealed to the government and the private sector for some assistance on the vehicles that can navigate floodwaters between three (3) to six (6) feet deep.
“If you have vehicles capable of assisting in these conditions, please proceed immediately to the Incident Management Team at the Public Safety Office, City Hall Compound,” the Naga LGU stated in its post.
Due to the deep-flooding, some low-lying areas in Naga City look like rivers now. In the town of Pili, there are also several residential properties and food establishments that were hit by flood. Many people are now worried on the risk of leptospirosis.
