Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo Determined To Serve People of Naga
LENI ROBREDO – The Vice President said that she has no plan to run for president in 2028 saying it will be unfair for Naga.
Several known personalities in politics have already filed their Certificates of Candidacy (CoCs) for the 2025 Midterm Elections. One of them is former Vice Pres. Robredo who is running for mayor in Naga. She is running under the Liberal Party which was also her political party when she ran for the presidency in 2022.
Former VP Leni’s late husband, former Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, has served as mayor of Naga before he was appointed in the DILG. It was the late former President Noynoy Aquino who appointed Jesse in the interior department.
The mayoralty bid of Leni in Naga was announced by the Liberal Party a few days before the start of the filing of candidacies. Her 2022 running-mate, former Senator Kiko Pangilinan who ran for the vice presidency, is seeking a Senate comeback in the next election.
Amid her mayoralty bid in Naga, there are already questions of former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo will run in the presidential election again in the future. Will she vie to be the country’s president again in 2028?
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo claimed that she has no plans to run for the presidency in 2028. She believes that it would be unfair for Naga if she will use the local position as a stepping stone towards the presidency. According to her, she will not be an effective mayor in that case.
“Tingin ko magiging unfair para sa city if gagamitin ko lang pagiging mayor bilang jumpoff point. Hindi ako magiging effective mayor kung ang iniisip ko lang ay yung 2028,” Robredo said.
Former Vice Pres. Robredo admitted that there were calls for her to run for senator in 2025 but she believes that she does better in the executive department. Based on the report, the former Vice President stressed that she has tried both — to be in the legislative and executive department and community work is really her thing.
“Una, mas mahusay ako sa executive position, pangalawa, talagang passion ko yung community work, at eto ang buod ng pagiging mayor,” she said.
Based on the report, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo stressed that a different kind of “skillset” is needed in the Senate. According to her, she has been a congresswoman thus, she is confident that she is more passionate in the executive work in the local government.
Former VP Leni’s running-mate in the upcoming 2025 Midterm Election is her long-time ally, Gabriel Bordado. She is in the pursuit of achieving inclusive and sustainable economic progress in Naga if she wins mayor.
