Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo Speaks on Donations for #KristinePH Victims
LENI ROBREDO – The former Vice President clarified that not one of them in Angat Buhay or their Naga Team will receive cash donations.
Several areas in the Philippines are currently experiencing heavy rains and strong winds. The Bicol region is one of those that are greatly affected by Tropical Storm Kristine. Countless Filipinos were forced to leave their homes for safety.
In Naga City, several residents and families had to climb up their roof to avoid the rising floodwater that has reached roof-level of the residential homes in low-lying areas. The storm was expected to make a landfall either Wednesday or Thursday but it started raining in Tuesday causing the canals to overflow.
Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is one of those who called for help to rescue the victims of flood most especially those who were stuck in the roof of their houses for hours already. The former VP appealed for pump boats that can help rescue the residents stuck in their roofs.
The local government unit of Naga also sought for assistance as they were in need of vehicles that can pass through flood between three to six feet deep. Even the bus terminals in the city was flooded and countless vehicles were left dipped in floodwater.
A shopping mall in Naga was one of those that the evacuees turned to but the flood also entered the ground level of the building so the evacuees had to move to the second floor of the mall. Thousands of people had to be evacuated amid the onslaught of the storm.
The strong winds and the flooding also caused the damage of several vehicles in Camella Naga Subdivision. After the flood subsided, the vehicles can be seen bumping against each other.
Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is one of those who are exerting efforts to get help for the flood victims. Meanwhile, amid the efforts, the former Vice President clarified that not anyone from her Angat Buhay or Naga team receives cash donations.
According to former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, they have authoritied the non-governmental organization (NGO) “Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership” to receive the cash donations for “transparency and accountability”.
“Not one of us in Angat Buhay or our Naga Team will receive cash donations, as part of our policy,” the former Vice President said.
Meanwhile, Robredo warned the public not to believe right on people claiming to be her or anyone from the Angat Buhay team. The Kaya Natin! Movement and the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation have launched donation drives for those who want to financially help the typhoon victims.
