GSIS – The Government Service Insurance System assured that the Emergency Loan is immediately available in the areas that are under a State of Calamity due to Tropical Storm Kristine.

Several areas in the Philippines were greatly hit by Tropical Storm Kristine that brought heavy rains and strong winds that triggered flooding. Naga City in Bicol Region is one of those that were left devastated by the typhoon.

Countless residents of Naga were stuck in the roof of their houses for several hours after the floodwater reached a roof-level deep in low-lying areas. Former Vice President Leni Robredo even appealed for pump boats that can help rescue the victims of flood who were stuck in their roofs for several hours.

Flood also entered a shopping mall in Naga. It urged the evacuees to transfer to the second floor of the building for safety. The residents of Camella Naga Subdivision were also left with damaged cars after the flooding and the strong winds all pulled the vehicles in one corner.

For the members of the Government Service Insurance System, there is an Emergency Loan that you can turn to provided that you meet the qualifications set by the state entity. The GSIS recently spoke about its calamity loan offer.

Based on a report on GMA News, the Government Service Insurance System guaranteed that the GSIS Emergency Loan is immediately available in areas that were declared under a State of Calamity due to the wrath of Tropical Storm Kristine.

Here are the eligibility requirements in applying for the loan offer:

  • a bona fide resident or employee of the government office within the declared calamity area;
  • be in active service and not on leave of absence without pay;
  • has no arrearages in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions; and
  • has no loan that has been declared in default.

According to GSIS, the Emergency Loan offer is already open for the qualified GSIS members in Albay and Naga City. The social insurance entity is also monitoring the other areas in Bicol as well as the CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Central Visayas, Negros Island Region, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao for declarations of a State of Calamity.

“Once an area is declared under a state of calamity, GSIS will immediately make the loan available to qualified members and pensioners,” the GSIS said.

Based on the report, Government Service Insurance System president and general manager Wick Veloso suggests members who want to apply for the loan to apply through the GSIS Touch for convenience and a faster transaction.

Under the loan offer, members with no existing calamity loans may borrow up to Php 20,000. GSIS members who have existing calamity loans may apply for up to Php 40,000. Aside from the GSIS, the Social Security System or SSS also offered its Salary Loan for members hit by Kristine.
