BJMP Says Court Approves Request for Medical Checkup of Ex-Mayor Alice Guo
A court released an order for the medical checkup of former mayor Alice Guo at a hospital as requested by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Back in the Philippines, former Mayor Alice Guo was placed under the custody of the Philippine National Police. The authorities previously explained that the former Bamban Mayor cannot be under the custody of the Senate while there is a case filed against her at the court.
Meanwhile, the Court allowed Guo to attend Senate and House hearings. At the inquiries, she continuously deny the allegations linking her to the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations. Guo also continuously claim that she is a Filipino.
More than a week ago, Alice Guo was transferred to Pasig City Jail upon the order of the Court. Before she was moved to a regular cell, a possible lung infection was found in the x-ray result of Guo. Thus, she was placed in a cell with the inmates who are being treated for TB.
Meanwhile, Guo tested negative for TB so she was moved to a regular cell. She shares the cell with 6 inmates. Most of them are facing drug-related cases. According to BJMP, Guo was shocked by her detention cell in Pasig City Jail.
Recently, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology confirmed that it has requested the Court to allow Alice Guo for a medical checkup at a hospital. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the request stemmed from the possible lung infection previously shown by the x-ray result of the former Mayor.
According to BJMP spokesman Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera, even the senators also believe that it is much better for Guo to be checked at a hospital as it was a concern raised during the previous Senate hearing.
“Naka-receive po kami ng court order para makapag pa-checkup siya,” he said.
Amid the Court Order released for the medical checkup of Alice Guo at a hospital, the authorities will still ask the former Mayor if she still wants a checkup. Based on the report, the BJMP is also coordinating with the hospital for the checkup’s schedule.
“Kasi, so far, healthy naman siya. Wala namang other health concerns na noted ang BJMP doctor natin,” Bustanera said.
On the possibility of Alice Guo filing a candidacy in the 2025 Elections, the Commission on Election said that they cannot reject her Certificate of Candidacy if she decides to file. The former Mayor previously said that she has yet to decide on seeking re-election.
