Alice Guo’s CoC To Be Accepted by Comelec in Bamban If She Files
COMELEC – The Commission on Elections in Bamban said that it is not surprised on the announcement of the camp of Alice Guo that she will run for mayor.
Recently, the lawyer of former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo announced that she will seek re-election in the town. According to Attorney Stephen David, the result of the election will determine if the people of Bamban really loves her or they no longer agree to have her in public service.
The announcement of David came amid Guo being detained in Pasig City Jail now. She was dismissed as Bamban Mayor amid the accusations that link her to the operations of the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in her town.
The former Bamban Mayor is also accused of being a Chinese national. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed that her fingerprints matched with the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese national who entered the country in 2003.
According to Atty. Stephen David, the cancellation of the Birth Certificate of Guo which is a vital documentary requirement in filing a candidacy is a long process. He stressed that there is no decision declaring Guo as not a Filipino.
On the ruling of the Ombudsman, the lawyer also expressed that it is not final and the Comelec has the final sya on whether or not the former Mayor is qualified to run for public office. Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra also said that Guo can run as the charges against her have yet to be decided on.
Recently, based on a report on GMA News, the Comelec in Bamban revealed its side on the announcement of the mayoralty bid of former mayor Alice Guo. Speaking to 24 Oras, Edmund Salvador said that the poll body is not surprised on the announcement of the camp of the former mayor.
The Comelec Officer stressed that they have no idea that she will seek re-election but the charges against her have yet to be decided on in the court. He stressed that a person can run for any post in the government while there is no conviction.
“Wala kaming idea na magfafile siya, pero di naman kami nasurprise kasi pwedeng pwede naman siyang tumakbo eh,” he said.
Based on the report, the Comelec in Bamban said that they are ready to accept the CoC of Guo if she decides to run in the 2025 Election. The lawyer of the former Mayor previously expressed his belief that it should be the people of Bamban who must decide.
“Ang taumbayan dapat ang humatol kung siya ay karapat dapat na manungkulan sa kanilang lugar,” David said.
The former Mayor is currently detained in Pasig City Jail. Previously, the request of the BJMP for a medical checkup of Guo at a hospital was granted by the Court.
