Sen. Imee Marcos Leaves Senate Slate Endorsed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos in 2025 Elections
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President reacted to the decision of his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, to withdraw from the senate slate of the admin.
Today is the first day of the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for the 2025 Midterm Elections. A few days prior to the filing period, several political parties have announced their senatorial bets. The grand alliance of political parties has also announced the senatorial candidates that they will support in next year’s elections.
Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), National Unity Party, Lakas-CMD, Nacionalista Party, and the Nationalist People’s Coalition joined forces for the 2025 Midterm Election. The announcement of the Marcos senatorial slate was held at the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas Convention.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos himself announced the admin’s senatorial bets in the 2025 Midterm Elections. Here are the candidates for senators that will be endorsed by the Chief Executive:
- DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos,
- Makati City Mayor Abby Binay,
- Senator Pia Cayetano,
- Senator Lito Lapid,
- Senator Francis Tolentino,
- Senator Imee Marcos,
- Senator Ramon ”Bong” Revilla Jr.,
- former Senator Manny Pacquiao,
- former Senator Panfilo Lacson
- former Senator Vicente Sotto III,
- Deputy Speaker Camille Villar, and
- former Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo
All the senatorial bets of the admin were present at the Convention except for presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos. The Chief Executive asked the admin’s senatorial bets to maintain their honesty.
However, recently, Sen. Imee Marcos confirmed her decision to leave the senate slate endorsed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos. According to the Presidential Sister, she does not want her brother to be put in a risky situation.
Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos aired his side on the decision of Sen. Imee Marcos to withdraw from the Senate slate of the admin. Based on a report on Inquirer, the Chief Executive stressed that it is fine and it is her choice. He also recalled that there were times when he also chose to run as an independent candidate.
“That’s fine. That happens. I’ve run as an independent myself, many times. And so that is her choice,” the President said.
Based on the report, Pres. Bongbong Marcos said that running as an independent candidate may give his sister “more scope and freedom to make her own schedule and campaign in the way that she would like to do”. The Chief Executive also assured that if she, later on, wants to join their campaign sorties, she is very much welcome.
Marcos said that the grand alliance will continue to support his sister’s senatorial bid. Previously, when asked if she wants to make a way to resolve the issue between Pres. Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Senator Imee said that it is secondary to her desire to run as an independent candidate.
