BONG GO – The Senator defended the war on drugs of the Duterte administration during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.

Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended the Senate hearing on his war on drugs. While it is not the first time that a chief executive attends a hearing of the upper chamber, it is the first time that the former Chief Executive graced a hearing on his admin’s campaign.

The Duterte drug war is surrounded by several issues and accusations. There are deaths linked to the campaign of the previous administration. The House of Representatives also have its own probe on the drug war. However, the former Chief Executive has repeatedly skipped the invitation of the House Quad Committee.

At the Senate hearing over his admin’s campaign on drugs, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed taking full legal responsibility of the campaign. According to the former Chief Executive, the police should not be punished as they were only following orders from him.

“Ako ang managot at ako ang makulong. ‘Wag ang pulis na sumunod sa order ko. Kawawa naman, nagtatrabaho lang,” the former President said.

Former Pres. Duterte also said that he only did his campaign for his country and to protect the “innocent and the defenseless”. According to him, he told the police not to abuse their power and it was the same thing when he was still mayor of Davao City.

At the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, Senator Bong Go defended the war on drugs of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s admin. He is a close-ally of the former Chief Executive and he was the special assistant of Duterte during his term as president.

Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, Sen. Bong Go stressed that illegal drugs was really rampant before the term of former Pres. Duterte. According to him, an iron hand is really needed.

“Kinailangan ang kamay na bakal,” he said.

Based on the report, Go also denied the accusation that there was a reward system in the implementation of the war on drugs of the Duterte admin. It was Retired police colonel Royina Garma who made the claim.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte also denied the alleged reward system on the war on drugs. He claimed that the police are not into receiving monetary rewards.
