Atty. Stephen David, Alice Guo’s Lawyer, Speaks on Client’s Bid for Mayor in 2025
Alice Guo’s lawyer, Attorney Stephen David, gave a statement on the mayoralty bid of his client in the upcoming 2025 Midterm Elections.
The election season has once again started in the Philippines. Currently, it is the filing of candidacy period and several former and existing public officials in the government have filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COC). Amid the period set for the filing of candidacy, there are individuals who doubt if Alice Guo will run for mayor again.
Alice Guo was dismissed from her office under the order of the Ombudsman. Her dismissal came amid the allegations linking her to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations and her questionable identity. The National Bureau of Immigration (NBI) found that her fingerprints are the same with the fingerprints of Chinese national Guo Hua Ping.
However, to the surprise of many people, Alice Guo’s comeback as mayor of Bamban was recently announced by her lawyer. Attorney Stephen David confirmed that his client will run for mayor in Bamban again this 2025 Midterm Elections.
Alice Guo’s Lawyer spoke more details regarding her decision to run for mayor in Bamban again. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, David stressed that the result of the election will show if the people of Bamban really loves her or they no longer want her to serve.
“Dapat kasi makita ng bayan kung mahal talaga siya ng Bamban. Kasi kung mahal siya, mananalo siya. Kung ayaw na sa kanya, hindi na siya mananalo,” he said in a phone interview.
Atty. Stephen David also downplayed the petition to cancel the Birth Certificate of the former Mayor. The said personal document is one of the requirements from individuals seeking public office. The petition is pending before a Tarlac Court.
According to Alice Guo’s Lawyer, the cancellation of the Birth Certificate is a long process. He also stressed that his client is a Filipina as there are no decisions yet declaring her as not a Filipino.
“She is a Filipina so wala namang desisyon as of now na hindi siya Filipino,” the lawyer said.
Atty. Stephen David also said that the perpetual disqualification ruling of the Ombudsman on Guo may not be able to stop her candidacy. Based on the report, the Lawyer stressed that only the Commission on Election (Comelec) can decide if she is qualified as the Ombudsman ruling is allegedly not final.
Previously, the Comelec explained that they cannot reject the COC of former mayor Alice Guo if she decides to file. The former Mayor is currently detained in Pasig City Jail.
