On Thursday, Gilberto Teodoro Jr. refuted reports circulating that he was stepping down, referring to them as “fake news” and emphasizing that he had no plans to do so. He made it clear that his priorities will continue to be carrying out his responsibilities as defense secretary and that he had no ambitions to run in the 2025 midterm elections.

While touring military installations in Palawan, Teodoro reaffirmed to President Marcos his intention to improve the Armed Forces of the Philippines via the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept, restructure the Department of National Defense (DND) to increase its effectiveness, and prepare the armed forces for roles related to external defense.

“That is my commitment to the President and the people of the Philippines, to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our nation,” Teodoro said.

Meanwhile, President Marcos, in an interview in Navotas City before of his birthday, laughed off the reports when questioned about Teodoro’s alleged resignation.

“Really? There’s news that Secretary Teodoro has resigned? Really? First of all, I will address that question. That is fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake news,” BBM said.

He clarified that Malacañang, not outsiders guessing, would announce any changes to the Cabinet or government.

Marcos added that he even talked to Teodoro about the rumor. “We couldn’t help but laugh over it. I called him up this morning and asked, ‘I heard you’re resigning.’ He replied, ‘Why? Are you removing me?’ I said, ‘Why will I do that, we don’t have any problem between us.’ He said, ‘Let’s just ignore that.’ But I said we have to address it,” the President said.
