Mayor Dong Calugay Denies Romantic Ties w/ Former Mayor Alice Guo
DONG CALUGAY – The Sual, Pangasinan Mayor claimed that his relationship with dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is friendship.
The Indonesian authorities arrested former Mayor Alice Guo in a rented apartment in Jakarta, Indonesia. He was able to flee from the Philippines despite her name being on the immigration lookout bulletin as multiple complaints have been filed against her.
Guo is facing accusations of involvement in the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in Bamban, Tarlac. She is also questioned about her identity. The fingerprints of the former Mayor matched with the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping which suggests that they are the same person. Guo Hua Ping is a Chinese national who entered the country in 2003.
Several government entities filed complaints against Guo. The Senate cited her for contempt and released an arrest order against the former Mayor. However, the authorities failed to locate her in all her registered addresses.
Former Mayor Alice Guo left the Philippines went to Malaysia then to Singapore and to Indonesia where she was arrested by the authorities. The Indonesian government turned her over to the Philippine authorities. She also attended Senate hearings as allowed by the court.
Alice and Shiela Guo hugged each other at the Senate and the said moment went viral. Currently, Alice is under the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) while Shiela is under the custody of the Senate.
Recently, Alice Guo attended a Senate hearing. At the inquiry, the lawmakers asked about her ties with Sual, Pangasinan Mayor Liseldo “Dong” Calugay. The mayor of Sual, Pangasinan denied having romantic ties with the dismissed Mayor.
According to Mayor Dong, he and Alice are only friends. He stressed that she is not his girlfriend and he is currently in a relationship. The Sual, Pangasinan Mayor had been previously married as well.
“Magkaibigan lang… Hindi ko po sya girlfriend,” the Mayor said.
Calugay was invited at the inquiry after the lawmakers found out that it was a member of the mayor’s staff, Cheryl Medina, who arranged the notarization of the counter-affidavit of Guo when she was already out of the Philippines.
At the Senate hearing, Mayor Dong Calugay was asked by Senator Risa Hontiveros about five (5) businesses in Sual which may be linked to him and to former Mayor Alice Guo. Among those were the Dongou Fish Farm, Guco Aqua Farm, and Licsel Fish Farm.
“Wala po akong ganyang negosyo po,” the Sual, Pangasinan Mayor said.
Previously, Department of Justice (DOJ) chief Boying Remulla expressed his belief that Alice Guo must be under the custody of the immigration.
