Golden Boy Carlos Yulo Speaks on “Unexpected” Rewards he got from Olympic Wins

CARLOS YULO – The Philippines’ Golden Boy in gymnastics admitted he does not know where to spend the money he got from his Olympic wins.

Caloy is vocal that it is one of his ultimate dreams to win gold in the Olympics. He was only 12 years old when he started training in gymnastics and he dedicated not just many years of his life but as well as most of his hardwork and effort to gymnastics.

This year, Carlos Yulo really made an unforgettable mark in the history of sports in the Philippines. He won not just one but two (2) gold medals in the 2024 Olympics held in Paris. The country’s Golden Boy won gold in men’s floor exercise and vault event.

The gold wins of Caloy and the Olympic bronze medal wins of Pinay boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio have led the Philippines to become the best-performing Southeast Asian nation in the 2024 Olympics. The country finished its Olympics journey at the 37th spot out of more than 200 participating nations.

Carlos Yulo has received more than P100 million cash rewards and gifts for winning two golds in the Olympics. Not only the Philippine government but as well as several private entities gave him rewards for the honor that he has brought the country.

Recently, one of the sponsors of Caloy in his Paris Olympics journey, DigiPlus, also gave him a cash reward. Based on an article on Pep, the gaming sponsor gave the Philippines’ Golden Boy a Php 5 million cash reward.

In a press conference, Carlos Yulo admitted that he still cannot believe the blessings that keep on coming his way. The Olympics Double Gold Medalist said that he is not materialistic and he still does not know where to spend his money.

“Siguro nung bata pa ako sasakyan. Kaso binigyan na po ako ng Toyota, e. So I don’t have to buy na po,” Caloy said.

According to Carlos, he might use his money in the gym stuff. He stressed that he will focus on it. Based on the article, the Philippines’ Golden Boy stressed that the rewards that were given to him are “bonus” as his target was the Olympic gold medal. He revealed that winning the Olympics is really his childhood dream and he achieved it.

Caloy did a lot of sacrifice during his gymnastics training in Japan. Based on the article, he recalled that he was only 16 then when he went to Japan for the training in 2016. He was away from his family and there’s a different culture in Japan. The language barrier has also played a role. According to him, he was not very good in speaking English then and many Japanese also don’t know how to speak in English.

“Sobrang shocked po ako. Mabigat po yun sa mga teenager na kagaya ko that time... Nagdasal ako kay Lord hanggang sa nakatulog ako. The next day, medyo um-okay na po,” the Olympic Double Gold Medalist said.

Caloy recently met his idol, Kapamilya star Coco Martin. Carlos Yulo admitted that he is open to joining Batang Quiapo.
