DOJ, NBI Release Statements on Alice Guo’s Arrested by Indonesian Authorities
ALICE GUO’S ARREST – The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed her arrest in Indonesia.
Former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo gained national attention in the Philippines not only for her alleged link to the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in her town and her questionable identity. She was also able to fled the country amid multiple complaints filed against her.
Guo was cited for contempt by the Senate for skipping two (2) hearings set by the upper chamber. The Senate released an arrest order against her but she ditched the successive inquiries set by the upper chamber. The authorities also failed to locate her in all her registered addresses.
Last month, Senator Risa Hontiveros made the announcement that former Mayor Alice Guo has left the Philippines. Her reported first stop was Malaysia and then she moved to Singapore and to Indonesia.
Shortly after reports that Guo has arrived in Indonesia were out, the companions of Alice Guo were detained in Indonesia and sent back to the Philippines. They are her supposed sister, Shiela Guo, and the alleged POGO representative, Cassandra Ong.
Shiela Guo was brought to the Senate while Cassandra Ong was brought to the House of Representatives. Previously, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian expressed his confidence that Alice Guo will not be able to leave Indonesia as he has talked to the ASEAN ambassadors. Recently, reports that former Mayor Alice Guo was arrested in Indonesia crossed the surface.
Both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed former Mayor Alice Guo’s arrest in Indonesia. Based on a post of ABS-CBN News, Justice Secretary Boying Remulla expressed his satisfaction with the outcome.
According to the DOJ Chief, Alice Guo’s arrest in Indonesia “is a testament to the tireless efforts of our law enforcement agencies and the strength of international cooperation in bringing fugitives to justice”. Remulla ensured that they will follow legal procedures to hold Guo accountable for any crime she has committed.
The Justice Department also said that Alice Guo or Guo Hua Ping was arrested in Tangerang City, Jakarta, Indonesia at 11:58 p.m. on September 3, 2024. Citing the information from the immigration counterparts, the former Mayor is currently under the custody of Indonesian Police at Jatanras Mabes Polri.
NBI confirmed the same information on Alice Guo’s arrest in Indonesia. According to NBI Director Jaime Santiago, the authorities are already talking about the turn-over of Guo to the Philippine authorities.
