Former Mayor Alice Guo Transferred to Pasig City Jail under Court Order
ALICE GUO – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said that the former Mayor was shocked by the condition of the cell in Pasig City Jail where she’s detained.
After a few weeks of being in hiding and away from the Philippines, the Indonesian authorities located and arrested former Mayor Guo in a rented apartment in Jakarta, Indonesia. She was immediately transferred to the custody of the Philippine authorities who brought her back to the country.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief general Rommel Francisco Marbil and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos were among those who went to Indonesia for the turn-over of the custody of Guo.
Reportedly, Guo left the Philippines in July amid several complaints filed against her. Her name was also in the immigration lookout bulletin then. According to her supposed sister, Shiela Guo, they departed the country via “a small boat”.
Shiela also claimed that Alice is not her biological sister. Amid the former Mayor being investigated for accusations that link her to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in her town, Alice denied that she has knowledge about the POGOs.
The Senate was the first to release an arrest order against Alice Guo. However, according to the authorities, she had to be under the custody of the PNP while she has yet to post a bail on charges filed before the court. A non-bailable case was filed against her before the Pasig Court. The court also ordered for her transfer to Pasig City Jail.
Alice Guo was initially isolated upon her arrival at the Pasig City Jail after her x-ray showed a possible lung infection. She was placed in a detention cell with the inmates who are being treated for TB. According to BJMP, the doctor said that the said inmates have already received a month-long medication.
Following the results of her testing for TB which she is negative, Guo was transferred to a regular cell. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, she shares the space with 6 other detainees.
According to BJMP, Alice Guo was shocked upon seeing the condition of the cell. BJMP spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera told ANC that the former Mayor may be expecting a different cell but stressed that she is “mostly compliant” on her first night in Pasig City Jail.
“She was shocked [by] the condition of her cell because I think she was expecting a different cell,” the BJMP Spokesman said.
Based on the report, most of the other detainees in the cell where Guo is staying face drug-related charges. The BJMP Spokesman said that they encouraged the other detainees to talk to the former Mayor so she will not feel isolated.
Amid the allegations, Alice Guo insists that she is a Filipino. She also denied the accusations linking her to illegal POGO operations.
