DOJ Undersecretary Speaks on Shiela Guo amid her Claim of Innocence on POGO Operations
SHIELA GUO – Department of Justice Undersecretary Nicky Ty believes that she is qualified to be a state witness.
Alice Guo has yet to be located by the authorities. Countless Filipinos were disappointed upon knowing about the reported departure of Alice Guo from the Philippines despite her name being on the immigration lookout bulletin. Several complaints were filed against her.
Guo is accused of alleged involvement in the illegal POGO operations in Tarlac. Her identity is also in question and the authorities tagged her to be the same person with Chinese national Guo Hua Ping. The National Bureau of Investigation, more popularly known as NBI, revealed that their fingerprints matched.
Alice Guo reportedly left the country last July 17 and arrived in Malaysia the following day. The authorities said that she went to Singapore to meet her family and then moved to Indonesia.
While she has yet to be located, Alice Guo’s companions were detained in Indonesia and sent back to the Philippines. They are Guo’s supposed sister, Shiela Guo, and Cassandra Li Ong who is also facing POGO link accusations.
Ong is under the custody of the House of Representatives now while Guo is detained in the Senate. During a hearing set by the upper chamber, the supposed sister of Alice Guo claimed that took boat rides to escape from the Philippines to Malaysia.
Shiela Guo also admitted that Alice is not her biological sister and she was born in China. According to her, she was either 16 or 17 years of age when she arrived in the Philippines to work in an embroidery business as ordered by her “father”.
Guo denies being involved in the illegal POGO operations in the country. According to her, Alice is still in Indonesia but she does not know where she really is in the country now. Recently, an official of the Department of Justice (DOJ) expressed his belief that Shiela Guo can be a state witness.
Based on a report on GMA News, Justice Undersecretary Nicky Ty said that she does not want to pre-empt the DOJ but Shiela is qualified to be a state witness. He also stressed that Shiela is not really mastermind behind the illegal POGO operations.
“Kung maniniwala tayo kahapon sa mga asta niya eh parang nadamay lang siya or napahamak lang siya ng mga kasamahan niya,” Shiela said.
Meanwhile, based on the report, the DOJ Official clarified that it is only a possibility to make Shiela Guo a state witness. According to Ty, there are a lot of things that need to happen before she can be a state witness. He stressed that usually, a person must be charged and will be discharged on the ground that he/she will be a state witness.
Currently, there are already recommendations on the charges to be filed against Guo and Ong. The camp of Cassandra Li Ong confirmed her photo with Pres. Bongbong Marcos and First Lady Liza Marcos.
