Amid Mayor’s Pending Arrest, Comelec Cites Identity Issue of Alice Guo

COMELEC – The Commission on Election’s Legal Department recommends the filing of misrepresentation complaint versus Mayor Alice Guo.

Suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is currently faced with several accusations, cases, and complaints. However, the authorities have yet to locate the suspended Mayor.

Mayor Alice Guo skipped 2 Senate hearings regarding the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in her town. In the previous hearings, she denied the accusations that she’s involved in the illegal POGO operations.

Following her absence during the July 10 Senate hearing, the committee that handles the case cited Guo for contempt. An arrest order was issued by the Senate. However, the authorities was not able to locate her in all her registered addresses including her farm and garments factories.

The Senate panel is seeking to file formal charges against Mayor Alice Guo after she skipped the July 29 hearing set by the upper chamber. Amid a pending arrest, she previously released a statement saying that she is ready to face the accusations against her at a proper forum.

Guo also apologized to Senate President Chiz Escudero saying she was just suggesting when she told the senators in her post to focus on critical issues in the country. According to the Senate President, he cannot grant any request from Guo if she does not surface. He also reminded her that she must not tell the senators what to do.

Aside from the accusations of her alleged POGO involvement, Guo is also being questioned about her identity. The fingerprints of Mayor Guo matched with the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping, the Chinese national who entered the Philippines in 2003.

Recently, the Commission on Elections confirmed the recommendation of its legal department. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, COMELEC chairman George Garcia said that the law department suggested the filing of material misrepresentation complaint against suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.

Garcia stressed the fingerprint matching between Guo and Chinese national Guo Hua Ping. Based on the report, the en banc will decide on the recommendation of the legal department of the Comelec next week.

Amid questions, suspended Mayor Alice Guo maintained that she is a Filipino. Based on the report, the camp of the suspended Mayor said that the move is “premature” because the validity of her birth certificate is still an issue.
