Sen. Sonny Angara Is Incoming DepEd Secretary
SONNY ANGARA – The Senator and DepEd Chief revealed his stand on the proposed salary increase for teachers in public schools in the Philippines.
One of the biggest state departments in the Philippines is the Department of Education. More popularly called DepEd, it governs the public schools in the Philippines from kindergarten to senior high school. It was previously headed by Vice President Sara Duterte.
A few weeks ago, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte resigned from being the DepEd Secretary. She also resigned from being the vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict. The Vice President did not reveal the reason behind her move.
Recently, President Bongbong Marcos appointed Senator Sonny Angara to be the next DepEd Secretary. Is he in favor of increasing the salary of teachers in the public schools in the country?
Based on a recent report on GMA News, Sen. Sonny Angara who is the new DepEd Secretary in the country supports the call to raise the salary of teachers in public schools. However, on the proposal to raise the entry-level wage of public school teachers to Php 50,000, the lawmaker says he would study the proposal.
According to Sen. Anggara, he does not only want better conditions for educators but as well as boosted salaries and benefits for them. Speaking to Super Radyo dzBB interview, the Senator explained that the Congress is the one that sets the salaries in case there is an increase on the wage of the government employees.
With regards to the possibility of increasing the entry-level salary of public school teachers to Php 50,000, incoming DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara assured that he would look into coordination with the other state entities like the DBM or the Department of Budget and Management and the DOF or the Department of Finance.
“Pero tayo, hundred percent in support po tayo for all of these teachers’ increases dahil alam natin na apektado ‘yung kalidad ng edukasyon kapag talagang inspired ‘yung mga teachers,” the lawmaker said based on the article.
