Cadet’s Thumbs Up in Group Chat may have led to Punishment by Senior before he died?

Police Draws Suspicion from Cadet’s Thumbs Up on Group Chat Before his Punishment, Death

CADET’S THUMBS UP – The Calamba Police is seeing the thumbs up sign of the cadet as the possible reason that offended his senior class which led to his punishment.

Nowadays, the social media platforms have served as one of the main channels for communication of people across miles. Two (2) people can privately converse through a chat message or more people can have the “group chat”. However, unlike the personal conversation, things may be taken differently and that is what the Calamba Police eyes in the case of Vince Andrew Delos Reyes.

Vince Andrew Delos Reyes is a cadet of a maritime academy in Calamba City, Laguna. He was punished by his senior officer who asked him to report to his cabin after an offense was committed.

Delos Reyes was mandated by his senior officer to perform physical activities as punishment. However, based on Super Radyo dzBB’s report, the cadet suffered from shortness of breath and lost his consciousness.

Vince Andrew Delos Reyes was rushed to the infirmary. Due to his weak pulse rate, he was transferred to the Global Medical Center of Laguna. However, he was declared D.O.A. or Dead on Arrival.

According to Calamba Police, the cadet was full as he just came from their “evening chow” when he was punished and lost consciousness while serving the punishment for him.

Based on the investigation of the Philippine National Police Regional Office 4-A, the suspect is “Nathaniel”, not his real name. He was turned over to the city police for the investigation on the incident prior to the death of Delos Reyes.

Based on a report on GMA News, the Calamba Police sees the cadet’s thumbs up as the possible reason why he was punished by his senior officer. Citing the 24 Oras report, the probe found that Vince Andrew Delos Reyes’ thumbs up to a chat may have offended his senior officer.

Calamba Police Officer-In-Charge Police Lieutenant Colonel Titoy Cuden said that the cadet’s thumbs up instead of a formal response possibly did not sit well with his senior officer.

Delos Reyes was ordered to do a series of exercises. Based on the report, the cadet was asked to do squat thrust for 100 repetitions, pumping for 100 repetitions, and the star jump where he collapsed.

According to Cuden, the investigation found that the suspect did not intend things to lead to the death of the cadet. They think that the victim was not hazed but they will still look into the medico-legal report.

On the part of the mother of Vince Andrew Delos Reyes, she does not believe that her son was just asked to perform a series of exercises. She stressed that the face of her son in the videos and photos tells different.
