YOUTUBER – Alex Choiwho was arrested for a stunt involving fireworks fired from a helicopter at a Lamborghini might spend up to ten years in prison.
A YouTuber accused of orchestrating a stunt where a helicopter launched fireworks at a speeding Lamborghini for a “crazy stupid” video has been arrested in California, according to US prosecutors.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Suk Min Choi, known as Alex Choi, has nearly 1 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, which promises “the greatest car shenanigans!”
However, the 24-year-old’s fireworks stunt, filmed in a dry California lake bed last summer, has led to charges of “causing the placement of an explosive or incendiary device on an aircraft.”
If found guilty, Choi could face up to 10 years in federal prison.
In the video titled “Destroying a Lamborghini with Fireworks,” Choi allegedly presses a “fire missiles” button while two women in a helicopter shoot fireworks at a speeding Lamborghini sports car.
According to the report, behind-the-scenes footage purportedly shows Choi making various references to coordinating the shoot, according to the affidavit.
He also expresses gratitude to a camera company for “being a part of my crazy stupid ideas.”
The 11-minute video appears to have been removed from Choi’s YouTube channel.
The Department of Justice press release noted that the helicopter was flying near the ground without filming permits.
Choi is believed to have bought the fireworks in Nevada, where they are legal, as opposed to California, where they are not.
The report states he was scheduled to make his initial court appearance in Los Angeles on Thursday, with his arraignment to follow in the coming weeks.
