There are huge responsibilities in being a father which includes providing for the family. In the case of single parents, the responsibilities are doubled.

One of the single parents in the Philippines is Pedrosino “Pedring” Catubig, a 57-year-old driver who lost his wife, Mayet, to brain aneurysm in 2016. They have two (2) children — Nona and Bea. Their eldest, Nona, was in Grade 10 while their youngest, Bea, was in Grade 7 when their mother died.

The single dad was left with huge responsibilities of providing for their family and taking care of the household as well. Based on an article on Pep, his daughters also had a hard time after the death of their mother. Bea even had depression.

To be able to give the needs of his daughters, the single dad worked harder. He worked as a driver in four (4) companis — Grab, Lalamove, Mr. Speedy, and and Joyride. He would allot 15 to 18 hours of his day for work. During his free time, he will do the household chores like cook their food and wash the laundry.

According to the single dad, he really strived to give what his daughters would ask so they won’t feel sad. If they wanted to go somewhere or to ask for money, he would do or give them what they ask. He provides both emotional and financial support to his daughters.

“Para maiwasan na malungkot sila, binibigay ko lahat ng gusto,” Pedring said.

The gestures of Pedring helped his daughters slowly move on from the passing of their mother and find happiness again. Based on the article, he admitted that he didn’t know what to do at first but he learned to balance his time between work and home.

Meanwhile, amid the single dad working 15 to 18 hours apart from doing the household chores on his free time, his hard work is getting paid off. Nona is graduating as magna cum laude in U.P. Diliman while Bea is a college student at De La Salle University.

Nona took Bachelor of Science in Psychology while Bea is taking Bachelor of Forensic Science. Indeed, the story of Pedring shows that the genuine love of a father knows no limit.
