PBBM Announces Manny Pacquiao’s Senate Comeback
MANNY PACQUIAO – Worldwide boxing great Manny Pacquiao will run for senator in the 2025 midterm elections.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hinted on Friday that Manny Pacquiao, the legendary Pinoy boxer, may be contemplating a comeback to the Senate in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
Marcos made the remark while in General Santos City, Pacquiao’s birthplace, attending the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF). He recognized Pacquiao’s potential return to the Senate, stating, “At siguro hindi na kailangan ipakilala, babatiin ko na lang ang idol ko, ang idol niyo, ang idol nating lahat, ang dating senador at babalik na senador, Senator Manny Pacquiao,” Bongbong said.
After the event, Pacquiao informed reporters that he intends to run for a Senate seat once more. When questioned about the party he will align with, the boxing icon stated, “PFP,” which stands for Marcos’ Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
In the 2022 elections, Manny Pacquiao could have sought reelection as a senator but opted to join the presidential race, where he competed against Bongbong Marcos and other candidates for the presidency.
Pacquiao ended up in third position, earning over 3.6 million votes. He lagged behind former Vice President Leni Robredo, who garnered 15 million votes, and Marcos, who secured 31.6 million votes.
Before the elections, Pacquiao aimed criticism at Marcos. In October 2021, shortly after the filing of candidacy certificates with the Commission on Elections, Pacquiao urged Marcos to relinquish any illicitly obtained wealth amassed by his family and to offer an apology for past wrongdoings before seeking the presidency.
Pacquiao also condemned PBBM for not participating in presidential debates, urging the candidate to participate in a one-on-one debate instead. The former boxing champion additionally stated that Marcos lacked the ability to lead the Philippines effectively.
