The first part of the Leche Flan recipe is the list of ingredients. Here are the ingredients that you need to prepare in cooking a flan that can serve up to eight (8) people:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 (13 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 (13 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

The other part of the Leche Flan recipe is the cooking process which may take up to two (2) hours. Here are the steps in making this all-time favorite dessert of many people:

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit or 165 degrees Celsius.

Add sugar and water in a saucepan and heat it over medium-high heat. Bring it to boil but do not stir to avoid the mixture from crystallizing. Continue to boil while swirling the pan occassionally until the sugar syrup’s color turns brownish. It may take around seven (7) to ten (10) minutes.

Reduce the heat to medium low. Once you see the color of the caramel turning deep brown, pour it into a flan mold. Carefully tilt the mold to ensure that the whole surface in the bottom is covered.

In a large bowl, add the evaporated milk, egg yolks, condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Stir it lighly to avoid the formation of bubbles. Afterwards, strain it slowly into the caramel-lined flan mold. Cover with aluminum foil.

Place a huge baking dish on the oven rack. Make sure it can hold all the flan molds. Set the flan molds on top of the baking dish and add hot water up to halfway the height of the mold.

Bake it in preheated oven for around an hour until the leche flan is firm. Afterwards, take the flan molds from the oven and allow it to cool for around 30 minutes.

Afterwards, run a pairing knife around the edges of the flan and cover the mold with a platter. Carefully flip it over to transfer the flan into the platter for serving.
