Guide on the SSS Maternity Benefit Requirements Claim Application
SSS MATERNITY BENEFIT REQUIREMENTS – The Social Security System requires the following documents in filing a Maternity Benefit claim.
Most of the benefit offers of the Social Security System (SSS) are open for both its male and female members. There is only one (1) benefit that is exclusive — the SSS Maternity Benefit for pregnant members of the state-run social insurance institution.
Truth be told that during pregnancy, employed mothers have to stop from working for at least a few months prior to the delivery of the baby. In fact, most mothers stop working as early as the developmental stage to make sure that they are not stressed which could greatly affect the development of their baby. Stopping from work also means losing income for a while for most mothers.
The temporary stopping from work is a separate factor from the fact that childbirth requires quite a huge amount now most especially if the baby is delivered through a caesarean section. Thus, the SSS crafted a benefit offer that could assist mothers — the SSS Maternity Benefit. It is one of the offers of the institution aside from the SSS Salary Cash Loan.
The Maternity Benefit offer is open for pregnant members of the SSS who have posted a total of at least three (3) months contribution within the 12-month period prior to the semester of the delivery of the baby.
Also part of the SSS Maternity Benefit requirements is that the pregnant member should have notified her employer about the pregnancy. If self-employed, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), or got separated from employed, the expecting mother must have notified the SSS about her pregnancy.
Aside from the eligibility criteria, there are also SSS Maternity Benefit requirements that are documentary. You must prepare and submit the following documents in applying for a claim:
- Maternity Notification Form
- proof of pregnancy (Ultrasound Report)
- UMID or SSS biometrics ID card or two (2) other valid IDs, both with signature and at least one (1) with photo and date of birth
Submit your documents to a branch of the SSS nearest to you. This benefit offer is just one of the many benefits offered by the Social Security System including the SSS Retirement Benefits for the senior members of the institution who stopped working.
