Take Turns Definition, Sentence Examples

TAKE TURNS MEANING – Find out what take turns really means. Example sentences of this idiomatic expression can also be found here.

The term turn dates back to before 1000, however, the phrase “take turns” has an unclear origin. It is derived from the Middle English word turnen. It denotes rotating an axis.

When a wheel on an axis spins, the same component goes back to where it came from. This is comparable to having people take turns. Like a circle, each person is given a chance before he/she moves on to the next. It eventually comes back to the person who initiated it. Alternating between two or more people is possible.
