The idiom “get a life” has an unknown true origin. However, the records show that the phrase didn’t start to become popular until the 20th century.
The words “get a life” were originally used in the following passage from a Washington Post article published in 1983: “Gross me out, I mean, Valley Girl was, like, ohmigod, it was last year, fer sure! I mean, get a life! Say what?”
