Jogger Attacked by Bear in Mountaneous Region in Italy
JOGGER – 26-year-old Andrea Papi who was out jogging was unexpectedly attacked by a bear near the mountaneous region of Caldes.
Bears can only be found in some countries unlike other animals that are present in most nations across the globe. One of the countries where bears can be found is Italy. Due to the fact that they are only present in some nations, many people are fascinated in seeing them in person in zoos.
However, recently, a lot of people were shocked when a jogger fell victim to a bear attack in Italy. Sadly, the person lost his life due to the said attack.
Based on an article on The Guardian, 26-year-old jogger Andrea Papi was not able to return home after he went out to jog in the mountaneous region near Caldes, Italy where he lives. His family reported to the authorities after he failed to go home when he was just out to jog.
Unfortunately, the lifeless body of Andrea was found by the authorities overnight. He endured deep wounds in the neck, chest, and arms. The autopsy result concluded that the jogger was attacked by a bear.
A source close to AFP reportedly said that the bear attack that resulted to death was the first record in Northeast Italy. There have been years of debating regarding the dangers posed by these animals in the said region after at least two (2) people were attacked by bears in the past.
However, on the other side, animal welfare group ENPA’s Annamaria Procacci who is also a former ecologist argued that bears stay away from people. Based on the article, instead, she stressed the lack of precautions of local officials to make sure that the people are away from the areas where female bears are tending to their cubs.
