SAGIP Party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta on Philippine-made telenovelas: “Parang kabisado mo na”
MARCOLETA — SAGIP Party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta said that Philippine-made telenovelas are too predictable and less interesting when compared to Korean dramas.
During a recent episode of Net 25’s “Sa Ganang Mamamayan”, he commented on an alleged proposal from a certain senator to ban Kdramas in the country as a way to muster support for locally produced telenovelas.
He said that artists in local dramas are “magagaling” when compared to artists in Kdramas. However, he said that Kdramas have better story than local dramas.
“Eh papaano kasi kapag pinagkumpara mo, magagaling nga yung ating mga artista. No questions about that. Magagaling,” he said. “Pero pagka-sinuma mo naman, kapag sinukat mo yung nobela o kaya yung drama, parang walang kinapupuntahan. Parang kabisado mo na kung pupunta sa kanal ito o hindi.”

Marcoleta’s comment came after Senator Jinggoy Estrada said last week that he’s considering proposing a ban on Kdramas in the country.
Meanwhile, Barangay Health Workers (BHW) Party-list Representative Angelica Natasha Co is pushing for the slashing of all local and national taxes on stage plays and movies instead of banning Korean and other foreign TV series and films in order to boost local movie productions and to encourage moviegoers to patronize them.
Co said that banning or taxing foreign TV series, films, and other creative media output are “not the strategies that will create opportunities for Filipino creative talents and entrepreneurs”.
Also, Co said that bringing ticket prices down by cutting down all national and local taxes on productions, both foreign and local, “would be a step in the right direction”.
