Michael De Mesa: “Felt we needed to clarify because of misinformation!”
MICHAEL DE MESA — Cherie Gil‘s brother recently took to social media to issue a statement regarding a report about the remains of his sister.
Cherie Gil died last August 5 following a battle with a rare form of endometrial cancer.
To recall, actor-singer Markus Paterson visited the resting place of the late actress at Tuminugan Farm in Bukidnon. He also wrote a heartfelt message to the late actress in the caption of his social media post.
“You lived and you loved fully. It brings me peace knowing you are dancing in paradise right now…” Markus wrote at that time. “Love you always tita Cherie.”
Michael recently debunked a report from Inquirer stating that the late actress was buried in Bukidnon.
In a statement posted on his social media account, Michael revealed that his late sister was cremated in New York, but various members of the Eigenmann family took their share of Cherie Gil’s ashes.
The actor also pointed out that while his late sister’s ashes were scattered in Bukidnon, he said that it is not entirely accurate to say that she was buried there.

According to him, Bukidnon was his late sister’s favorite place, but she wasn’t buried there as some of her ashes were just scattered there. He added that what was seen in the Inquirer report is “just a memorial to remember her”.
The actor further explained that the reason his family decided to issue a statement to the public is to clarify the “misinformation” circulating on social media.
“Felt we needed to clarify because of misinformation!” he said in the caption of his social media post.
Members of the Eigenmann family came together for a gathering earlier this month to remember the late actress.
