DOH: “Let us do this in a one nation approach, na hindi tayo mag kanya-kanya”
DOH — The Department of Health urged all local government units to follow the face mask policy amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
The DOH urged all LGUs to follow the policy on the wearing of face masks. According to the health department, such a rule played a vital role in the country’s response against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a press briefing on Wednesday, DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said that wearing a face mask reduced the chance of getting sick by about 70% to 80%.
“This should be a one-nation approach. This is the whole Philippines implementing safeguards for our population,” Vergeire said. “Let us do this in a one nation approach, na hindi tayo mag kanya-kanya. Let us try to follow our protocols right now.”
The statement came after Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama signed an executive order lifting the mandatory face mask policy in outdoor and open spaces in Cebu City.

According to Vergeire, the Cebu City officials didn’t consult the DOH with regards to their plan of easing the face mask policy in their area.
Vergeire also noted that the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has the jurisdiction to oversee that all local government units should follow the different policies being implemented by the national government.
She added that the health department understands the sentiments of other people that some countries were able to lift their face mask mandate, but it’s difficult to compare the Philippines with other countries.
According to her, the Philippines needs to meet certain criteria first before further easing the restrictions.
