President Bongbong Marcos said Lydia de Vega “has fought a good fight”
BONGBONG MARCOS — The President mourned the death of Filipina sprinter Lydia de Vega, who died after her battle with breast cancer.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the President hailed Lydia as the “fastest woman in Asia” as she placed the country in the map of international athletics. According to him, the late Filipina sprinter “has fought a good fight”.
“I join the entire nation in mourning the untimely demise of former Asian sprint queen Lydia de Vega, after a four-year battle with breast cancer,” the President said in a statement. “Lydia de Vega has run her last race. She has finished her contest. She has fought a good fight. Let us pray for her peace.”
The statement came after Lydia’s daughter, Stephanie Mercado de Koenigswarter, announced the death of her mother through her social media post.
