UN Pays Respect to Late Japanese Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
UN – The United Nations Security Council held a minute’s silence for Japan former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a meeting in New York.
The death of Japanese former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe shocked people across the globe. He was shot on his back while the former Prime Minister was giving a speech a few days ahead of the election in Japan.
During an event held in Nara, the people there claimed that they heard two loud sounds before the former Prime Minister fell to the ground. He bled and was immediately given a response on the cardiopulmonary arrest. He was rushed to the hospital.
However, a few hours after Abe was brought to the hospital, confirmation that the former Prime Minister of Japan has died circulated on social media following the reports. He was 67 years old when he died.
The suspect of the incident, a male, who allegedly used a homemade weapon in supposedly launching his motive against the former Prime Minister of Japan was arrested.
Several national leaders and former presidents and prime ministers of different countries expressed their condolences to the family and fellowmen of Japan former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over his death. The UN Security Council also held a minute of silence to pay respect to him.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, before proceeding to debate on a resolution during a convention held in New York, the UN Security Council paused for a moment of silence for Abe and another former national leader, Angolan former president Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who died in Spain.
In a statement, the spokesman of UN expressed that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was “saddened” by the killing of Abe. The former Prime Minister of Japan will be remembered as a respected leader and support of the United Nations who pushed for multilateralism.
