PHIVOLCS Logs 4.1 Magnitude Earthquake in Part of Sorsogon
EARTHQUAKE – PHIVOLCS recorded a 4.1 magnitude quake in Donsol, Sorsogon early today, February 21, 2022.
Natural occurrences can hardly be predicted that is why there are drills conducted in different institutions, schools, and offices so the people will know what to do in case they will happen. One of these natural events is earthquake.
Quakes cannot be fully said accurately on when it will hit a certain area despite predictions. All that the people can do is prepare for it. It is a product of the Earth blocks slipping past one another causing shaking on the ground.
Usually, schools and workplaces conduct drills so the students and everyone in an office will not panic in case there is a strong shaking of the ground. The Philippines is one of the countries prone to quakes.
Nations that are lying along the Pacific Ring of Fire are known to be more prone to earthquakes. The said natural event can happen both on land and underwater. The agency that is in-charge in monitoring quakes is the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or more commonly called PHIVOLCs.
Recently, PHIVOLCS logged a 4.1 magnitude earthquake in a part of Sorsogon. Based on the bulletin released by the agency, the said quake hit Donsol at 09:32 a.m.
The quake was located at 12.96°North, 123.59°East – 006 km North 09° West of Donsol. It is tectonic in origin. Instrumental Intensity II was recorded in Legazpi City, Albay.
According to PHIVOLCS, there are no expected damages caused by the quake. Furthermore, there are also no aftershocks expected of the said quake. More updates may be posted soon.
