Update on COVID Vaccination for Kids Aged 5-11 in the Philippines
COVID VACCINATION FOR KIDS – The Philippines has started its COVID-19 vaccination of children aged 5-11 in Metro Manila.
The Philippines remains on a tight fight against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The said virus is exempting no one and the national government encourages the people eligible for vaccination to get their jabs for protection.
PH and several other countries across the globe are in pursuit to achieve herd immunity or population protection against the virus through vaccination. Several brands of vaccines were developed.
Among the COVID-19 vaccine brands that arrived in the Philippines are Sinovac, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Janssen, and Sputnik V.
The national government has opened the vaccination for the adult population. In fact, a lot of fully vaccinated individuals most especially the healthcare workers have already received their booster shots.
The COVID vaccination for kids aged 5-11 in the Philippines has also started in Metro Manila today, February 7, 2022. It was initially set to start last February 4 but there’s a delay in the transport of the vaccines.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the government aims to vaccinate around 15 million children belonging to the said age group. Many kids recently got infected with the virus.
The COVID vaccination for kids 5-11 years old outside Metro Manila is eyed to start on February 14, 2022. Pfizer came up with a vaccine concentration that is centered on the said age group.
Some individuals including two (2) parents who filed a petition seeking to restrain the start of the vaccination for children have doubts about the move. Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) previously stressed that it will be pushed through and it is not mandatory. Furthermore, the health department also mentioned that the consent of the parents are needed and the children will be assessed prior to the vaccination.
