CHED: Limited Face-To-Face Classes In HEIs Under Alert Level 2 Can Start “Anytime”

Limited face-to-face classes in HEIs under Alert Level 2 can start “anytime”, according to CHED.

CHED — The Commission on Higher Education said that HEIs (higher education institutions) in areas under Alert Level 2 may start offering limited in-person classes for all degree programs as soon as they’re ready.

In CHED COVID-19 Advisory No. 9 dated January 10, CHED Chairman J. Prospero De Vera III said that as mandated in previous IATF resolutions and CHED issuances, higher education institutions located in areas under Alert Level 2 may start limited face-to-face classes “anytime”.

De Vera also said that the application to CHED wasn’t a “requirement for the conduct of the limited face-to-face classes.”

He stressed that HEIs intending to hold limited in-person classes during the pandemic must be willing to assume the responsibilities for the reopening of their campuses based on their capability to comply with the health and safety protocols, to get the support of their stakeholders, and to retrofit their facilities.

De Vera added that the HEI must also notify the concerned CHED Regional Office (RO) through submission of the accomplished self-assessment checklist and notarized affidavit of undertaking before the start date of the limited in-person classes.

For clustering of coronavirus cases, De Vera said that the preventive suspension of limited in-person classes shall be based on the assessment and decision of the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) of the higher education institution in consultation with the Local Task Force against COVID-19.

De Vera, meanwhile, also announced that limited face-to-face classes in HEIs located in areas under Alert Level 3 will start on January 31, 2022.

The Commission on Higher Education reminded HEIs to ensure that health and safety protocols will be followed when reopening schools for limited in-person classes.
