Typhoon “Odette” will not hamper their preparations for the 2022 elections, according to COMELEC.
COMELEC — The Commission on Elections recently assured the public that typhoon “Odette” will not hamper their preparations for the 2022 elections.
On Monday, COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press conference that they didn’t see it will have any effect on preparations for the 2022 election.
Jimenez also explained that COMELEC field officials were conducting verification of elections sites and they’re considering if those areas were ready for the 2022 elections.
“It is still a long way off,” Jimenez said. “So, right now [we are looking] more on the civic aspect of the storm, how can we help the local communities rather than what specific impact it will have on our elections because right now, again it is a little too distant.”

Meanwhile, the poll body said that it was expecting around 67.5 million Filipino voters for the 2022 elections.
Jimenez said that the 67.5 million voters, which he posted on Twitter over the weekend, was the “final number” for domestic voters. He added that there were around 1.8 million overseas Filipinos who registered to vote in the 2022 elections.
Also, Jimenez said that it would be considered as a “historic level of participation” if the estimated 67.5 million registered voters would participate in the 2022 national and local polls.
In the recent elections, he said that number of registered voters dipped to below 59 million (from 61 million).
“We rebounded all the way up to around 65 million so that is a huge bounce. ‘Yun ang historic sa tingin ko,” Jimenez noted.
