Harry Roque was considering a Senate run in order to clear his name.
HARRY ROQUE — The Presidential spokesperson was considering a Senate run in order to clear his name amidst “war criminal” accusations.
According to Roque, he should clear his name after being called a “war criminal” and that’s an injustice to call him a “war criminal” in an attempt to embarrass them internationally.
The Palace spokesman was referring to a recent incident in New York, United States where protesters confronted him and accused him of being a “war criminal” who shouldn’t sit as a member of the UN International Law Commission (ILC) for being a defender of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.

“Ang solusyon ko diyan, humingi ng mandato sa taumbayan para malaman natin kung talagang pinaniniwalaan ng taumbayan na isa tayong war criminal o susuportahan ng tao ang nagawa na natin at gagawin pa natin sa darating na taon na ibibigay ng Panginoon,” Roque said.
Roque again cited his previous work as a human rights lawyer and an advocate, including defending journalists from libel cases.
The Palace spokesman earlier said that he will only run for senator in the 2022 elections if presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will run for the presidency.
Meanwhile, Roque said in an interview on ANC that he has “found a resolve to actually run” for senator, but clarified that he wasn’t making a confirmation that he will run for senator.
Roque said that he still needed to consult the matter with President Rodrigo Duterte and Mayor Sara.
