Metro Manila LGUs will discuss the age restrictions for minors in malls, according to Benhur Abalos.
BENHUR ABALOS – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman said that the local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila will discuss the age restrictions for minors in malls.
According to Abalos, a technical working group (TWG) composed of Metro Manila health officials was set to meet on Tuesday afternoon in order to discuss the age restrictions for minors in malls.
Abalos said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB that the TWG will then present its recommendation to Metro Manila mayors for their approval possibly on Wednesday.
“Kung matapos kami mamaya, baka bukas magpulong na ang mga mayor,” Abalos said. “The earlier, the better for everyone.”
Abalos also said that the meeting stemmed from the report that a two-year-old child had tested positive for COVID-19 after his parents brought the child to the mall.

In a pre-recorded “Talk to the People” public briefing aired Monday night, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered local government units (LGUs) to craft an ordinance that would restrict minors aged 12 years old and below from going to malls.
The President stressed that the unvaccinated minors still didn’t have defenses against the coronavirus disease.
According to Abalos, the Metro Manila mayors will try to come up with a uniform ordinance. He then appealed to parents not to expose their children to possible coronavirus infection, especially the infants.
“Yun ang usapan naming mga mayor dahil very porous ang mga border namin,” Abalos said. “Yung magulang, yung parental responsibility niya ipasok niya. Bilang mga magulang dapat manggaling na rin sa atin.“
