Sen. Pacquiao Reveals Stand on ICC Investigation
PACQUIAO – Presidential aspirant and Senator Manny Pacquiao spoke on his plan over the ICC investigation in case he will win as president.
One of the issues that hooked international attention are the deaths linked to the drug war in the Philippines. The International Criminal Court (ICC) is one of those that wants to investigate on the issues and accusations against President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Previously, the 76-year-old President expressed that he will retire from politics after his term as the country’s Chief Executive. He also said that he will prepare for his defense to the ICC probe.
Recently, one of the presidential aspirants in the 2022 Election, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, spoke his side on the ICC investigation.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Senator expressed that as Philippines being part of the international community, he will not stop the ICC from investigating the drug war in the Philippines. He stressed that it is the right of the foreign court and their process must be respected.
When asked what he will do in case the ICC would arrest Pres. Duterte, Sen. Pacquiao expressed that he respects the investigation of ICC and he would also respect the court’s decision.
Amid the issues and accusations surrounding the anti-drugs campaign of the Duterte administration, the Palace officials have continually rejected to participate n the investigation of the international court. Reportedly, one lawyer expressed that the court may still be able to obtain pieces of evidence even without coming to the Philippines.
Cleaning the country from drugs is the most popular election campaign promises of the former Davao City Mayor. He even said that he can finish it in six (6) months but, later on, he admitted that he might have miscalculated its extent in the country.
