No recommendation yet for the next PNP chief, according to DILG Secretary Año.
DILG — Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said on Friday that he has not yet submitted his recommended list for the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government has yet to submit its recommendations to replace PNP chief PGen. Guillermo Eleazar, who will retire next month.
“I have not yet submitted my recommended list for the next Chief PNP,” Año told GMA News Online.
According to Año, he would submit his recommendations to President Rodrigo Duterte on the last week of October 2021. Año also said that merit, seniority, and service reputation will be his basis on coming up with a recommendation for the next PNP chief.

Eleazar, the 6th PNP chief under the Duterte administration, took over the helm of the Philippine National Police last May following the retirement of PGen. Debold Sinas.
He will retire on November 13 when he reached the age of 56.
It was last month when Eleazar said that he will not run in the 2022 elections as his priority was to continuously improve the image of the police before he retired.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was asked about Eleazar’s upcoming mandatory retirement in a Presidential press briefing Thursday.
“Ayon nga po nakakalungkot na may retirement age si Chief Eleazar. Sana panghabambuhay nang chief si Eleazar ‘no. Pero syempre po, mayroon naman pong short list [ng ipapalit] ang Malacañang, hindi ko nga lang pupuwede sabihin kung sinu-sino to,” the Palace spokesman said.
