Twitter started rolling out its new “Tips” feature to all iOS users.
Twitter recently started rolling out its new “Tips” feature to all iOS users and also turning on the ability to ask for tips in Bitcoin.
It was last May when the social network started rolling out its Tip Jar feature for some users. With this feature, creators were able to easily receive money from their followers.
Recently, Twitter announced that the said feature was broadly available for all iOS users and there’s even support for crypto.
“People already drop links to their payment profiles in their bios and in their Tweets. Tips makes this easier to do, offering one fixed spot, right on your profile,” Twitter explained.
Twitter also said that it’s possible to link to the creators’ Patreon, Cash App, Venmo, and other platforms wherein followers can support them.
According to Twitter’s blog post, the said feature was first rolling out to iOS users and will bring it to Android users over the coming weeks.
The services available so far, according to Twitter, were the following: Patreon, Razorpay, Venmo, Cash App, Bandcamp, Chipper, and Wealthsimple Cash.
Twitter was also adding PicPay and GoFundMe as new Tips services as well.

Twitter was also enabling the ability to ask for tips in Bitcoin through its app, making Twitter the first major social network to encourage the use of cryptocurrency as a method of payment.
In addition, the social network planned to let users connect their crypto wallets and to authenticate the ownership of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) they tweeted with a special badge.
The Bitcoin tips were facilitated by “Strike”, a Bitcoin wallet app that’s running on the Lightning Network protocol.
Lightning was designed to enable cheaper and faster transactions using Bitcoin. The company behind it had received funding from Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, a staunch Bitcoin advocate who tweeted last June that it’s “only a matter of time” before the social network supported payments through the protocol.
“Strike” worked in all US states except Hawaii and New York, and the country of El Salvador.
Twitter users will be able to add their Bitcoin addresses to their profile in addition to their “Strike” usernames.
Twitter’s app will then notify users when they received a Bitcoin tip through “Strike”, letting them quickly reply to the tipper to send an emoji reaction or to thank the tipper. Also, Twitter will generate invoices for creators in order to track the tips they received.
Esther Crawford, Twitter’s product lead for creator monetization, said during a call with reporters last Thursday that Bitcoin “represents one of the best solutions” for enabling people to transact in underbanked regions of the world.
