Senator Gordon hit back at President Duterte and called him a “cheap politician”.
Senator Richard Gordon hit back at President Rodrigo Duterte after receiving tirades from the President and called him a “cheap politician” for supposedly protecting Michael Yang and Christopher Lao.
Senator Gordon, the chairman of the Senate blue ribbon committee handling the investigation on the government’s pandemic procurement last year, questioned why President Duterte was protecting his former economic adviser Michael Yang and former Department of Budget and Management-Procurement Service (DBM-PS) head Christopher Lao.
The senator even called the President a “cheap politician” and also said that he will pray for forgiveness for President Duterte.
“Pero kayo, Mr. President I am really sorry for you. Ang pinagtatanggol niyo si Lao? May utang na loob kayo dahil sa eleksyon? You are a cheap politician, Mr. President. Cheap politician. As cheap as they come, I’m sorry,” Senator Gordon said. “Galing kayong Catholic school pero mukhang wala kayong natutunan.”

After Senator Gordon’s remarks, senators from the minority bloc — Senator, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Senator Risa Hontiveros, and Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon — voiced out their support towards the senator for his “courage” amidst the Senate blue ribbon committee’s investigation.
A teary-eyed Senator Gordon thanked his colleagues in the Senate and said that all those who spoke out in the investigation were all “courageous.”
“Whether you accept it or not, these are times when courage must come out with what is happening. It is so difficult to live during these times. I hope that our countrymen will find it in their heart to see the truth. I’m not saying that we are right all the time. Panindigan natin ang ating pagsisilbi sa bayan at pagmamahal sa bayan,” Senator Gordon said.
Senator Gordon had been at the end of President Duterte’s tirades over the investigation on the government procurement amidst the pandemic.
President Duterte said in his speech aired last Tuesday that he will campaign against Senator Gordon in the 2022 elections. Prior to this, the President also lambasted the senator’s lengthy interpellations and mocked him over his weight.
