TasteAtlas ranked Sinigang as the best-rated vegetable soup in the world.

With a rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars, TasteAtlas announced that Sinigang was hailed as the number 1 best-rated vegetable soup in the world.

The “encyclopedia of flavors” described Sinigang as “a sour Filipino soup” that was traditionally served hot and steaming as a main dish, with rice as its accompaniment. In addition, Sinigang was an often seen dish at special occasions such as weddings or birthdays.

With its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country, sinigang is a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine,” TasteAtlas said.

Meanwhile, Sinigang placed 19th among over 160 vegetable soups around the world under the “most popular” category, with 91 reviews as of this writing.

Ukraine’s Borscht was hailed as the most popular vegetable soup in the world with over 500 reviews as of this writing. Borscht has a rating of 4.1 stars out of 5.

GMA News Online reported that TasteAtlas recommended three restaurants that served the best Sinigang: Locavore, which uniquely served Sinigang as a sizzling dish; Sentro1771, whose “Sinigang na Corned Beef” was truly formidable; and Fely J’s in Makati.

TasteAtlas was an “encyclopedia of flavors” — a world atlas of local ingredients, traditional dishes, and authentic restaurants. It was catalogued over 10,000 dishes around the world.
